Having lost three of four games, the Carey School boys' varsity basketball team reversed direction and nailed down its first victory of 2009 Tuesday with a 55-41 Northside Conference win at Murtaugh.

Three Carey players and nearly four scored in double figures for coach Dick Simpson's Panthers (5-3, 3-2 league).

They were Trevor Peck (14 points, three 3-pointers), Wacey Barg (13) and Brett Adamson (10). Others were Dillon Simpson (9 points), Tyler Chavez (4), Heith Adamson (3), Jacy Baird (1) and Brad Peck (1). Manuel Pacheco (22) topped Murtaugh.

Carey visits Magic Valley Christian (0-7, 0-5) today, Friday in Jerome and then entertains Oakley (3-2) Saturday. Oakley, an 85-63 home winner over Challis Dec. 18, hosted Castleford Thursday night.

Cutthroats fall to Dietrich

The Community School boys' varsity basketball team ran headlong into one of the three top Northside Conference contenders Tuesday night at The Fish Tank in Sun Valley.

Dietrich (5-2, 4-1 league) raced to a 30-12 halftime lead and outscored the host Cutthroats 53-27. Casper Brun (9 points), Lucas Vorsteveld (8), Paul Davis (5) and Tanner Flanigan (4) led Sun Valley. Scott Perron and Jaren Stoddard each had 10 for Dietrich.

Coach Ed Flory's Cutthroats (2-5, 2-3 league) hosted the Twin Falls sophomores Thursday night and will entertain the tough Northside Conference-leading Richfield Tigers (6-0, 4-0, 62.7 ppg) Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Sun Valley.
