Drivers waited up to 45 minutes to take advantage of the $1-per-gallon of regular gas special offered by Sun Valley Co.

Sun Valley Co. and Sinclair Oil owner Earl Holding helped Wood River Valley residents ring in the New Year by offering gas for a mere $1 per gallon of regular at the Sun Valley Sinclair station on Jan. 1.

Sun Valley Co. garage Supervisor Ed Hillman reported that about 8,000 gallons of regular gas were sold throughout the day, with cars lining up well before the 8 a.m. opening until the tank ran dry around 4 p.m.

The line of cars, which stretched up Trail Creek Road from the station to the former Sun Valley Golf Course Clubhouse, was sectioned off with traffic cones to allow traffic to pass safely in the snowy conditions.

Sun Valley Co. spokesman Jack Sibbach said drivers waited an average of 45 minutes to get to the pumps.
