Mountain Rides plows on through

By TERRY SMITH
Express Staff Writer

Snow and ice have caused minor delays in the Mountain Rides Transportation Authority’s bus schedules, but overall the agency is handling the hazardous road conditions without major problems, Executive Director Jason Miller said Monday.

“The big buses do amazingly well,” Miller said. “They’re heavy and they all have studded snow tires. We’ve been able to pass a lot of four-wheel drives that were stuck in the snow.”

Miller said some buses have become stuck, but only a few required towing. Occasional delays have been experienced in both the Around Town and DownValley services, but are only averaging five to 10 minutes, he said.

“We’re moving a lot of people around,” Miller said. “It’s been a challenge, but overall we’re in decent condition. It’s going to continue to be challenging for the next few days or so.

“I’ve been really proud of how all our drivers and mechanics have been doing. We’ve got a really good crew.”
