Some 630 Wood River Valley residents were notified by e-mail or cell phone text message last Friday when the Blaine County School District decided to close schools because of snow.
The messages went out shortly before 6 a.m. to people who have signed up with the Txtwire Mobile Alert System.
"We believe that this is a very valuable tool to both the school district and the community to keep them informed of school emergencies such as school cancellations, snow days, delayed starts or other school-related emergencies," states a school district press release. "We also believe that this tool will help remind parents of important school events in a timely manner."
