We mourn the passing of Frank Lorenz, who left us Dec. 15, 2008. Frank was born in Spiazzo, Italy, in 1931 and immigrated with his family to America in 1932. For many years Frank worked alongside his father in the family knife sharpening business. He graduated from Seattle Prep in 1949 and received his bachelor's degree from Seattle University.
He began his career with Standard Insurance, moving to Schwarz, Shera & Associates. By his retirement he had become president & CEO of the company. He married Rae (Manthey) Lorenz in 1959 and was married for 34 years. An avid skier, Frank taught at Crystal Mountain from its opening, with the Jack Nagel Ski School and then Star Skiers, for almost 30 years. Beginning in the 1950s he would take yearly ski vacations to Sun Valley. After his retirement, he achieved his dream of spending his winters skiing at Sun Valley, making many new close friendships in the local community. He also greatly enjoyed partaking of and volunteering for the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Rae, and is survived by his sons, Lance and Rome Lorenz, his brothers, Ed and Larry Lorenz, and many nephews and nieces.
He is buried in Seattle at Holyrood Cemetery. Frank had a lifelong belief in Jesuit education. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Seattle Prep general scholarship fund in his name.
