Two Blaine County Sheriff's deputies were treated at St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center after they were injured during a domestic disturbance last week in Bellevue.
Evan Glenn Bear, a 47-year-old Blaine County man who allegedly injured the deputies, has been charged with two counts of felony battery on a police officer and one misdemeanor count of malicious injury to property. Bear is accused of injuring deputies Rene Rodriguez and Tony Munoz and trying to flush his ex-wife's telephone down a toilet.
A probable-cause affidavit filed by Bellevue Marshal Ron Taylor states that Rodriguez suffered a "hairline fracture on his L3 vertebrae" and that Munoz received a severely strained right thumb.
"They're on sick time because of their injuries," Taylor said.
Taylor reported in the affidavit that both officers will be on light duty for several weeks. Munoz works out of the sheriff's office in Hailey, while Rodriguez is assigned to the Bellevue Marshal's Office.
Both deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call around 3 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, in north Bellevue.
Taylor wrote in the affidavit that Bear's ex-wife told the deputies that Bear had locked himself in an upstairs guest bathroom of her home. When he refused to come out, the woman gave the deputies permission to "kick the door in."
Taylor wrote that Bear still refused to leave so the officers entered the bathroom to remove him.
Bear then allegedly struck Rodriguez in the jaw and pushed him into the bathroom sink. He also allegedly twisted Munoz' right thumb, causing a severe strain.
Taylor wrote that the officers were eventually able to subdue Bear by putting him in a headlock and grabbing hold of his legs.
Bear was arraigned on the charges later that day in Blaine County Magistrate Court. He was released from the Blaine County jail after posting $12,500 bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. today.
