A well-known fitness trainer in the Wood River Valley was killed Friday evening in a one-vehicle rollover east of Fairfield.

Idaho State Police reported that Emil Cristurean, a 32-year-old Sun Valley man, was killed about seven miles east of Fairfield on U.S. Highway 20. The accident occurred on a snow-covered roadway at about 8:30 p.m. while Cristurean was returning to the Wood River Valley from Boise.

A police press release reported that Cristurean, driving a 1999 Chrysler 300, apparently lost control of the vehicle, which slid off the left side of the roadway and rolled. Police stated that Cristurean was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

"He died of his injuries at the scene of the crash," the press release stated.

Originally from Romania, Cristurean had worked as a personnel trainer at The Valley Club Fitness Center near Hailey for about two years.

"He was the most dedicated, conscientious coworker that anyone could have," said Bill Koretz, Valley Club director of fitness. "He was a tremendous asset to the club that we will miss tremendously."

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Wood River Chapel in Hailey.

A fund has been set up to pay for expenses and to transport Cristurean's body to Romania for burial. To donate, contact either Flavia Pop at (208) 440-1259 or Sabina Bischin at (208) 450-9496.
