Ketchum keeps connected with newsletter

By JON DUVAL

In an effort to improve communication with residents, the city of Ketchum published the first issue of its new quarterly newsletter, which arrived in mailboxes over the weekend.

The eight-page "City News" included a review of successes and plans of Ketchum's Downtown Master Plan, a statement from Mayor Randy Hall, and a profile of City Administrator Gary Marks, who took his position in August.

As well, the newsletter contained a survey on the quality of city services, giving residents the opportunity to give feedback to city leaders.

"This effort to increase communication with the community is a priority for us," Hall stated in his address. "It's important that we hear from you."

With the current state of the economy filling the media, it's no surprise that the newsletter also included a note on the budget. Specifically, as a result of a 4.8 percent decrease in the 2008-09 budget, several positions within the city are not being filled.

In addition, with snow finally falling, the city reminded residents and the owners of nighttime businesses that following a snowfall of three inches or more, all vehicles must be removed from city streets between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Property and business owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks fronting their property the same day as the snowfall or during the first six hours of daylight the following day.
