Murphy: Get over it

Could someone on your staff please inform Mr. Murphy that the 2008 presidential election is over? Perhaps in his dotage he is unaware of that fact. His incredibly mean-spirited attack on Gov. Sarah Palin in your Dec. 10 issue is beyond belief. How many more diatribes from this divisive buffoon must we endure?

"Manners maketh man." However, there is no civility to witness in Pat Murphy's column—only coarse invective and crude name calling. He refers to Mrs. Palin as a "flash-in-the-pan," "daffy yokel," "vamp" and "dumb blonde with brunette hair," and then goes on to remind us that President-elect Obama will "restore intelligence and eloquence" to government and we won't be subjected to all the "dirty tricks and stunts" that the naughty Republicans have pulled on us. Oh please. Can someone show the papers from the last few days to this tunnel-visioned, angry man so he can get up to speed on what's going on in Illinois with Democrat Gov. Rod Blagojevich who was caught on tape trying to sell Mr. Obama's senate seat to the highest bidder? Poor Mr. Murphy is suffering from a delusion, I think.

Frankly, in this Christmas season we could use a bit more kindness and glad tidings instead of bitterness, so maybe Mr. Murphy will absorb some of his own verbiage and just "fade away as an amusing has-been." Then readers in the Wood River Valley won't be subjected to his venomous vitriol anymore.
