SUFC youth soccer meeting tonight in Hailey

Sawtooth United F.C. will hold a meeting today, Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Hailey Elementary School Library. The meeting is for parents and players in U-10 through U-18 age groups to answer questions, introduce coaches for the spring season, and outline club changes and schedules. Registration materials will be available. Expected coaches for the spring season include Richard Whitelaw, Aaron Thompson, Tim Graves, Chatham Baker, Lynn Chaldu, Dwight Cole, Brandeis Sample and Erika Connelly. Specific coaching assignments will be announced at tonight's meeting.

Midget hockey in Boise, tournament here Friday

The Sun Valley Midget/high school hockey team traveled to Boise last weekend to play some games as a tune up for its home Midget Invitational tournament Dec. 5-7 in Sun Valley. The shorthanded squad faced four teams in open competition, finishing 1-3 against squads from Meridian, Boise, Idaho Falls, and Seattle.

Sun Valley's victory was 12-1 over Idaho Falls—Nick Crosby notching the hat trick to go with two goals apiece by Ian Murphy and Tommy Heinrich.

Here is the scoring summary: Doug King 3 goals/4 assists; Nick Crosby 3/4; David Dredge 3/1; Jimmy Hague 3/1; Ian Murphy 2/4; Charlie Evans 2/1; Tommy Heinrich 2/1; Niels McMahon 1/2; Zak Sjoberg 0/3; Chance McCroskey 1/0; Tom Crosby 0/1. Goalie Cassidy Carson was stellar in net stopping 99 shots for the weekend.

This weekend, Sun Valley plays Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Beavers Friday, Dec. 5 at 8:30 p.m., then goes against the Meridian Warriors Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Idaho Falls Eagles Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.

Sunday's B+ League hockey

Absorbing their first loss were the Senators (3-1) by a 5-4 score to the Isles (2-2) in Sunday's B+ Hockey League action at Sun Valley Skating Center.

Crist Cook (2 goals) led the Isles with help from Dave Fleustch, Shannon Flavin and Dan Gorham. Scoring in the losing effort were Ken Pratt, Lucy Chubb, Mark Elsbree and sub Buck Drew (Sharks).

The final game was a back-and-forth contest between the Vipers (1-2) and Bad Dogs (1-1-1). The Vipers outlasted the Dogs 7-5. Steve McCoy topped the Vipers with a hat trick, followed by Baba Street (2 goals), Gavin McNeil, and an open netter by Scott Miller. The Dogs hung in until the empty netter with Gary Norbom (2 goals), Chris Peterson, Dave McMillen and Wendy Speth.

The Sharks (1-2) forfeited to the Wild Cats (1-1-1).

Nordic waxing clinic is Tuesday

Nordic skiers can learn to wax their skis in a free clinic taught by EJ Harpham and Muffy Ritz on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Art Room of The Community Campus, Hailey. During the "hands-on" clinic, skiers will learn the proper waxing techniques for the best glide. Be sure to bring your skis, and Toko will provide supplies. Skiers can also bring any waxing equipment they already own. A special waxing package will be available for purchase that includes everything to start waxing your skis at home. Included in the package are ski vices, iron, combi-brush, scraper, waxes, groove tool, manual and apron. For more details call Harpham 578-2169 or Blaine County Recreation District at 788-2117.

PeeWees play for third at Ogden

Thanksgiving weekend was a fun one for the Sun Valley PeeWee (ages 11-12) youth hockey team, which went 2-2 at a tournament in Ogden, Utah. The Idaho sextet defeated the Boise Junior Steelheads 4-1 and Rock Springs, Wyo. 5-0, and lost 2-1 to the Junior Steelheads in the third-place game. Nine players out of the 13-player traveling team scored points, and Sun Valley outshot its opponents 77-54. Players attending were Ellie Punnett, Brandon Benson, Gavin Shipley, Sam Burns, Gage Jorgensen, Jake Jorgensen, Hagan Barsch, Alex Schwartz, Reide Whitehead, Dylan Broman, Eli Conrad, Cameron Benson, Jack Seiller, Tripp Hutchinson, Willis Sanchez-duPont and Jack Swanson.
