Ann B. Dunn

Ann B. Dunn passed away peacefully from this life on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hailey, Idaho. Burial will be at the Hailey Cemetery.

Ann was born on March 24, 1920, in Hailey to Fred and Nell Vancil. She attended school in the Wood River Valley, graduating from Hailey High School. She then attended Idaho State University, receiving her associates degree in education. After graduating from ISU, Ann returned to Hagerman, Idaho, to help her grandparents run their grocery store. There she met the love of her life, Charles W. Dunn. However, Charles soon enlisted in the Army and was deployed to fight in World War II, leaving Ann behind. She decided to move to San Diego to help out as a civilian for the war. In San Diego, she was very proud to work in the aircraft hangers, placing rivets on planes. After a short time, she moved back to the Magic Valley to use her education degree and taught for several years.

In her late twenties she was reunited with Charles Dunn, was married and resided in Baker City, Ore. In 1949, their daughter, Linda Jean, was born. Three years later Ann packed up her small family and moved back to Hailey, to help her parents with the family grocery and ready-to-wear business. After Ann's mother passed, her father retired the grocery part of the business, and Ann continued to run the ready-to-wear department, calling it The Sage Shop. In 1961, their son, Michael Charles, was born. Ann continued to run The Sage Shop and raise her family. Not only was Ann a successful business owner, she was one of the founders of the Blaine County Museum, president of the Hailey Chamber of Commerce, a very involved member and Sunday school teacher of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and a continuing active member in her community. Ann's love of oil painting, family and home were the rewards she sought out in life.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Linda Jean (Dunn) Bartholomew; four grandchildren, Greg Bartholomew, Laurie (Russ) Biaggne, Lisa (Joe) Rochon and Brittney Dunn; and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie, Aspen and Logan, all who live in Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Nell Vancil, her husband, Charles W. Dunn, and her son, Michael Charles Dunn.

Her daughter, Linda (Dunn) Bartholomew, grandson Greg, and granddaughters Lisa and Laurie would like to extent a heart-felt thank you to the Seasons in Eagle, Karcher Estates in Nampa, and Guardian Hospice for their support and loving care of their mother and grandmother, Ann B. Dunn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Blaine County Senior Center, 721 South Third Ave., Hailey, ID 83333. Local arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey.
