This week, the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission will begin discussing possible changes to a county ordinance guiding the development of affordable housing.
The revisions, which would be specific to lands in the county directly south of the St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center, are being considered for the county's community housing planned-unit development ordinance. A public meeting at which the changes will be discussed is set to take place in the upstairs meeting room at the Old Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m.
For the past two years, county leaders have worked with officials from Ketchum and Sun Valley to come up a master plan to guide residential and commercial growth on these lands, which have been dubbed the McHanville or South Gateway area.
To be discussed during the meeting are proposals for introducing targeted density, incentives to encourage community housing and infrastructure improvements in the high-visibility area along state Highway 75. Other possible changes that will be considered include a possible reduction in the size of a community housing overlay district that already exists in the area.
