James Myerson

Jim was co-founder of Wine Warehouse, president of 21st Century Spirits, and a partner in the Ben Myerson Candy Co. for 60 years. A Los Angeles native, Jim was born in 1926. After attending Los Angeles High School, he graduated from Stanford University in 1946 and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. With his brother, Bob, his lifelong partner in business, they joined their father, Ben, in developing one of the most respected candy companies in California, many of their candies selling worldwide. Jim spent nine years on the board of directors of the National Confectioners Association. He was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2004.

In 1973, Jim and Bob Myerson founded Wine Warehouse, importing and distributing fine wines from around the world. Jim was inducted into the Chevaliers de Tastevin, for his contributions to, and his love and participation with, fine wines. Jim's creative spirit inspired the launch and development of Blue Ice Vodka, a premium American potato vodka in 2001.

Jim's peaceful passing on Nov. 10, 2008, is a great loss shared by all his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane Myerson; their two daughters, Dana Myerson Agamalian, her husband, John, and grandchildren, Grant and Alexa; and Carol Myerson Sever, her husband, Jim, and grandchildren, Ellery, Olivia and Rory; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Barbara Myerson, nephews, James P. Myerson and Allen Myerson, and niece, Linda Myerson Dean.

Jim and his family enjoyed sharing his interests in sailing, skiing, traveling and golf. A dedicated Francophile, he endeavored to learn the language, and was fortunate to make many friends on his trips to France.

Jim's word was his bond, his handshake a promise not to be broken. He often said, "His cup was always half full, never half empty." Jim is a man who will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions should be directed to the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, Box 1496, Hailey, ID, 83333, in memory of his beloved Labrador, Mocha, and his kitten from the shelter, Spike.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, from 2-4 p.m. Please call (323) 832-4497 for information.
