Blaine County’s economic future

I am writing in response to the Our View piece in the Nov. 12 paper regarding the current economic state of Blaine County. Clearly the future economic state of Blaine County depends on the decisions we make today.

The editorial suggests that Sustain Blaine is not necessarily working to develop solutions to our short-term economic woes as the coalition works to build a long-term strategy for Blaine County to have a sustainable economic future.

The reality is that Sustain Blaine has always had the intention and mission of developing and implementing both long-term and short-term strategies. Obviously to attain a sustainable economy you must plan for the future, while solving the problems of today.

The editorial piece also talks about the need for collaboration to provide fast solutions to the troubles of our local economy. Again, Sustain Blaine is meeting this need. All jurisdictions, the Sun Valley-Ketchum chamber, the Hailey chamber, Wood River Economic Partnership and numerous businesses, including local banks, have been working with Sustain Blaine since the beginning with these intentions. With all of these entities and many others at the table, what's happening in the markets today, yesterday and tomorrow has always been a consideration.

Sustain Blaine is embarking on developing this economic strategy at the best possible time. We now have the foresight to consider scenarios like the economic crunch the nation and Blaine County are facing today. As Sustain Blaine has always said, we need everyone involved, including you, to help shape the economic future of Blaine County. Keep in mind; future is as close as tomorrow.
