Wendy Collins, program director for the Sagebrush Equine Training Center near Hailey, was recently named the 2008 Region 9 Instructor of the Year by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, a member-run national organization that sets the standards for education and safety in therapeutic horseback riding. A longtime Hailey resident, Collins has been an instructor at Sagebrush Equine for 12 years. Bellevue resident Judy Grigsby was named 2008 Volunteer of the Year by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, for Region 9 covering Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. With her horse Richie, she has volunteered with Sagebrush Equine for nine years. She's also been a coach for the Special Olympics equestrian team, volunteered at horse shows, taught in weekly school programs and helped with the SETCH annual fundraiser, the Cowboy Ball. Collins recently attended the NARHA National Conference in Hartford, Conn., to accept the awards for herself and for Grigsby.
