Sports summary


Wrestling

After a pair of meets against several opponents, the Wood River Middle School wrestling team is firing on all cylinders, and 10 of the team's 23 members remain undefeated.

Not coincidentally, nine of the 10 undefeated grapplers won their weight classes in the season-opening meet at Glenns Ferry last Friday, including Cooper Bailey, Kyle Clark, Quinn Guthrie, Marshall Reyburn, Jared Anderson, Storm Anderson, Tommy Bailey, Tim Boyle and Ben Williams. Ryan Anderson (4-0) did not compete.

Volleyball

Wood River club volleyball will hold a meeting for the parents of high school players on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the WRHS commons area. Items to be addressed are the schedule and league for the 2009 club season. Details, Kristi Vandenberg, 720-0473.

Turkey Trot

Need a way to burn off the Thanksgiving stuffing and mashed potatoes? The 5th annual Hailey Turkey Trot 5k Fun Run and Walk is Thursday, Nov. 27, rain or shine. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and start and finish at the CSI Community Campus in Hailey. Registration through Nov. 26, is $15 per person, or $40 per family of five. Day of race signup costs $30 per person or $70 per family. Pre-register at www.active.com, or in person at Blaine County Title in Hailey. Entry includes a Turkey Trot beanie, coffee and hot chocolate and raffle prizes. Donations of non-perishable items to help restock the pantry at Souper Supper will also be collected at the race start. Bib bag pick up is Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 at the Hailey Blaine County Title (located in the E.G. Willis building above Shorty's Diner) from 8 a.m to 6 p.m.

"It's a great family tradition for the whole valley," organizer Daryl Fauth said. "Last year we had over 400 participants."

Last year's champions were locals Brad Mitchell in 17:58, and Kitty Marcroft in 19:42.

CSI Baseball Camp

The annual College of Southern Idaho baseball camp will be held December 27, 28, and 29, at the CSI campus in Twin Falls. Instruction is provided in all aspects of the game: hitting, fielding, catching and pitching. The staff consists of professional and collegiate coaches and players, including USA baseball coach Jim Walker.

Trout Unlimited meeting on Yosemite

Trout Unlimited's December meeting will feature local professional photographer Carmen Northern speaking on "Yosemite, a Photographer's Perspective." The meeting is Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5-7 p.m., also at Roosevelt Grill.
