Sun Valley Heli Ski Guides is scheduled to be before the Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday to once again seek permission to land a helicopter within city limits.
The company is applying to use a portion of the Sun Valley Gun Club as its base of operations for the second consecutive winter.
Last January, the city granted Heli Ski Guides a conditional-use permit to use the gun club for overnight storage of a single helicopter, as well as take off and land during daylight hours. That provides the company with a more convenient landing area, as it had previously been using a site at Baker Creek, north of Ketchum. However, that permit expired after five months, as the city wanted to ensure that that operation went safely and had minimal impacts.
As part of the agreement, the company was told to come back before the 2008-09 ski season in to set up a more permanent "footprint" at the site. That would include the use of the Gun Club office as the headquarters for Heli Ski Guides and the ability to refuel the helicopter on-site, rather than only at its Baker Creek facility.
Sigi Vogl, Heli Ski Guides' marketing director, said Monday that the company is putting the finishing touches on an agreement with Sun Valley Co. to use the resort's property.
Vogl said the company has yet to decide if it will maintain its Ketchum office on Fourth Street.
The company operates guided heli-ski trips throughout the Wood River Valley from December through April, depending on bookings and weather.
Vogl and Heli Ski Guides President Mark Baumgardner will be at Sun Valley City Hall at 9 a.m. to present their permit application.
