I am a resident of this wonderful valley, and share a great many of the political and personal views of its inhabitants. Or that's what I thought until I read a front-page article on Friday, Oct. 31, titled "Tenting Out in Bellevue."
I am appalled by the apparent lack of education by the Bellevue City Council. To blindly state that to live "off grid" is unsanitary is idiotic at best. I would suggest that they not visit some of our country's larger zoos as I am afraid that they might feel sullied to know that a great many are using composting toilets, and heaven forbid, solar panels!
To the council members, I would love to make an offer, I would love the opportunity to demonstrate the use of solar panels, and heck, I will even bring a micro wind generator to demonstrate that these technologies are 100 percent safe, and even sanitary.
Just a curious note: I read a great piece dated Wednesday, Nov. 5 (sadly it was on page A19) about geothermal heating. I wonder if that made the council cringe.
I just wonder which is worse—to live in a neighborhood that is looking at the bigger picture of sustainability or having a nuclear power plant next door?
I thought I lived in a community that was forward thinking, with a farmers' market right downtown in Hailey, and a conservationist mindset everywhere (tread lightly, take only pictures, leave only footprints). But the actions and statements made by the Bellevue City Council speak otherwise.
