With the new Sun Valley Club and Pavilion completed, Sun Valley Co. is turning its sights to River Run.
A press release from the city of Ketchum on Monday stated that the city and resort will begin working together to develop a plan for the resort's 160-acre parcel of land at the River Run base area. The process will kick off with a work session that will include the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and resort representatives on Nov. 12 at the River Run Day Lodge.
In an interview, Sun Valley Co. General Manager Wally Huffman said a new master plan for River Run will closely resemble one submitted by the resort in 2004. That included a 200-room luxury hotel to the southeast of the existing lodge, a large parking structure and nearly 500 residential units scattered along the higher elevations of the property.
The property is located within Blaine County, but according to the plan, it would be annexed into Ketchum.
"The time is right," Huffman said. "The city of Ketchum needs it and it's the first moment in four years we've been able to take a serious look at it."
The press release stated that in addition to a hotel and residential uses, development plans include employee housing, recreation, trails and a limited amount of commercial services.
As with Sun Valley Co.'s recently approved White Cloud development, formerly known as the Gun Club development, the resort will be using resort community planning firm Design Workshop.
Huffman said Sun Valley Co. is interested in developing River Run rather than its property at the base of Warm Springs because of its proximity to downtown Ketchum, as well as the economic potential provided by its large size.
