Education Foundation holds school tours

Public invited to 'Academics in Action' event

By EXPRESS STAFF

The Blaine County Education Foundation has invited the public to participate in "Academics in Action," an event set for Wednesday, Nov. 5, and featuring tours and presentations at Hailey Elementary School and Wood River High School.

"This is a great opportunity to learn how your tax dollars support outstanding academic programs and how the Blaine County School District is working toward becoming a world-class, model school system," said Heather Crocker, the foundation's executive director.

The tour will be held from 8 a.m. to noon. It is free of charge, though reservations are required. Transportation and lunch will be provided. To sign up or for more information, contact Crocker at 578-5449 or hcrocker@blaineschools.org.

"The learning that takes place in our schools is transformative and inspiring," Crocker said. "We have bright, dedicated teachers, eager, optimistic students and learning environments that are dynamic and inviting.

"Parents have opportunities to visit their own children's schools, but it's rare to visit a school that your child does not attend," Crocker said. "It's even less often that people without children visit our schools and that is what we are really aiming for with this tour."

At Hailey Elementary School, tour participants will visit the reading center to see how teachers use innovative methods to teach literacy. Technology in the classroom will be discussed, as will the school district's new preschool program.

PASS, a new program designed to identify and help students struggling with core subjects, will be discussed at Wood River High School. The Freshman Cohort program, designed to address the transition from middle school to high school, will also be featured.
