County should pay for dispatch

Voters of Blaine County are once again being asked to provide authority to the county to create a new and separate property tax initiative to pay for dispatch salaries. Now that the cities have balked at picking up the tab for six to seven additional dispatchers, which formerly was a Ketchum expense prior to "centralized dispatch, they apparently assumed they should go for broke and ask for new money to fund all 12 or 13 dispatchers.

My question to the commissioners is, how did you historically pay for six to seven dispatchers under the sheriff's budget? Can't you still do that? Wouldn't a prudent mind conclude that all you should have to ask for is the additional personnel and not the complete expense of all 13? Aren't you really trying to pad your revenues by about half the amount you are asking for? Seems that way to me.

Anyone voting for this proposal truly needs their head examined. As for me, I'll be looking for a second proposal for about half the amount and with some explanation as to why you even need that. I'm beginning to think you have all been watching our Treasury secretary far too much.
