Chuck Ferries enters Colorado ski shrine

This Saturday night

As a teen Charles Thompson "Chuck" Ferries ran away from his Houghton, Mich. home and bought a one-way railroad ticket to Sun Valley so he could better learn how to ski.

This Saturday night, two-time Olympian Ferries, 69, will be inducted with four others into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame during a black-tie ceremony at Denver Marriott City Center.

Ferries spent his formative years racing with the Aspen (Colo.) Ski Team and made both the 1960 U.S. Olympic Ski team at Squaw Valley and the 1964 Olympic team at Innsbruck, Austria. He is the only American to win the Hahnenkamm slalom in Kitzbuehel.

Ferries contributed his time, skills and financial resources while serving as president of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association from 2002-2006 and brought recognition to Colorado and the ski industry while serving as president of Scott USA. He was inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame in 1989.
