The Hailey Police Department had its hands full Sunday night with a high-speed vehicle pursuit on Woodside Boulevard.

Police Chief Jeff Gunter said that at about 10 p.m., an officer reported that a 2005 Acura driving southbound on Woodside Boulevard was weaving across the double yellow line and showed signs of driving under the influence. Gunter said the officer turned on his lights to signal the Acura to stop, but the driver accelerated, reaching speeds of 80 mph.

Police placed spikes in the road, which ultimately forced the driver to stop on Glenbrook Road. Gunter said the suspect refused to comply with police instructions, and officers used a Taser on him before taking him into custody.

The driver was identified as Juan B. Juarez, 27, a Bellevue resident. He was arrested and charged with resisting and obstructing arrest, driving without privileges due to prior DUI convictions, felony eluding and felony DUI.

Gunter said Juarez's previous DUI charges made this instance a felony. Driving at a speed of 30 mph over the speed limit while trying to elude police is also a felony.

Blood was drawn following Juarez's arrest to determine his blood alcohol level. As of Wednesday, the results were not available.
