Friends and family will gather Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 6-10 p.m. at Sun Valley's River Run Lodge to celebrate the life and adventures of pioneer ski filmmaker Dick Barrymore.
Barrymore, who spent over 30 years shooting ski films around the world, died peacefully at home in Ketchum on Aug. 1 from brain cancer. He was 74.
Tuesday's celebration will occur on the day when Barrymore would have turned 75. People will share funny memories, watch ski moves, view photo memories and enjoy musical entertainment by Alan Pennay. There will be hors d'oeuvres and a no-host bar.
Apres-ski singer Joe Cannon will give a roast and Larry Flynn will emcee the party.
"It will be mostly people standing up and speaking about Dick and his life," said Debbie Barrymore, wife of Dick's son Blake. "We expect an incredible amount of people from out of town to join the locals in remembering Dick."
Available at Tuesday's party will be copies of Barrymore's autobiography plus a 113-minute video called "The Golden Years of Ski Films," which features the best footage Barrymore selected out of his 25 years of ski movies.
Best known for his action ski films, Barrymore loved to travel and meet people. He developed the Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort in Mexico. Among his 50 ski films were "The Last of the Ski Bums," and "Wild Skis."
