"Senior Night" turned out to be a happy occasion on-and-off the court for the Carey School volleyball team Thursday.

Coach Kathy Whitworth's Panthers (11-9, 6-5 league) swept visiting Murtaugh 25-15, 25-18, 28-26 and Glenns Ferry 27-25, 25-23 on the Carey floor.

Running the offense effectively were Taylor Whitby and Shelby Hansen, who combined for 17 assists in the Northside Conference league match against Murtaugh, while Kelsey Green (7 kills) and Chelsey Hunt (6 kills) sparked 1A Carey over 2A Glenns Ferry.

The outcome gave the Carey Panthers four match wins in their last six starts including a 25-22, 29-27 non-league road win over Wendell and a very hard-fought 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9 league victory over Magic Valley Christian, in Jerome.

Kayla Bailey (6 kills) and Hansen (7 assists) led the way against Wendell. Statistical leaders against Magic Valley Christian were Bailey (13 kills), Green (10 kills), Jenni Murphy (8 kills), Hunt (8 kills), Amy Ellsworth (8 kills), Hansen (21 assists), Whitby (11 assists) and Jessica Parke (18 digs).

Carey visited The Community School (0-12, 0-11) Tuesday night. Both Blaine County schools will begin play in the seven-team Northside Conference tournament Saturday, Oct. 18 at Murtaugh.

The #4-seeded Panthers will likely open against #5-seeded Magic Valley Christian at 4 p.m., with the winner going against top-seeded two-time defending champion Richfield (13-4, 11-1) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Camas County (11-6, 8-4), the third seed, will play #6 Murtaugh at 5:30 p.m. and #2-seeded Dietrich (11-4, 10-2) will go against #7-seeded Community School at 7 p.m. No teams will be eliminated Saturday. The tournament continues Monday.
