Rodeo grounds discussed

The Hailey City Council will get a presentation from the Parks and Land Board on the future of Hailey's historic rodeo arena Monday night during a City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Future use of the Hailey rodeo grounds could involve an extended "street-skating" area for beginning skateboarders, a refrigerated, concrete hockey rink under the rodeo dirt and a shaded covering for year-round use.

The Hailey Parks and Land Board distributed a recreation survey earlier this month to get public input on future designs for the rodeo grounds. Since May, the board has been meeting with the Sawtooth Rangers, Hailey Ice and members of the skateboarding community to form a plan for the future of the building.

Idaho negotiating with Countrywide

Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden is negotiating on behalf of Idaho homeowners with Countrywide Financial Co. to participate in an $8.4 billion agreement to provide relief to borrowers with subprime mortgages.

Recently acquired by Bank of America, Countrywide will identify borrowers who hold these mortgages or high-risk loans serviced by Countrywide that originated before Dec. 31, 2007. The company will offer qualified borrowers a more reasonable range of alternatives to help them make payments and avoid foreclosure.

The goal is for Countrywide to have its program in place by Dec. 1. Wasden said he will issue further information as the negotiations progress.
