Barns Aren't Just For Horses

Jim Blaser of Boise outfits his family of six children with ski and snowboarding gear from The Community School barn sale Saturday at its Elkhorn campus. Horses that used to inhabit the barn have given way to a wide array of donated gear to provide fodder for the valley’s largest garage sale. According to Co-Chairwoman Gail Stickney, close to 3,000 people attended the weekend event, spending close to $85,000. The sale takes three months of preparation, hundreds of volunteers to make it successful and has been providing money for The Community School’s operating fund for the last 15 years. The school board actually asks the parents’ association to make an $85,000 quota from this sale and Stickney was pleased that the quota was met. The Idaho Youth Ranch picked up unsold merchandise to sell for its operating capital.
