Twelve years ago, Susan Ward created the Boulder Mountain Clayworks studio to provide a first-rate clay space for the Wood River Valley community. Today, the studio offers education for children through adults on the clay arts and provides a stimulating environment for creativity. In 2007 Boulder Mountain Clayworks became a non-profit organization, and it continues to seek community support with the second annual Boulder Mountain Clayworks Auction to be held on Saturday, Sept 27, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the gallery on the upper level of the Tenth Street Center shops, north of Ketchum off Highway 75 across from the Knob Hill Inn.

The fundraising party is $50 and includes food from Taqueria al Pastor in Bellevue, margaritas and other beverages, Latin music and a silent auction, which will close at 8 p.m.

"We want to have affordable art and fun," said Boulder Mountain Clayworks board President Nesbit Hatch. "We will have art from all sorts of different people, such as David deVillier, Ted Waddell, Abby Grosvenor and Jim Romberg. There will also be a demo throwing at the wheel as well."

Other artists contributing to the auction include Julie Singer, Susan Ward, Dianne and Elmer Taylor, Gay Odmark, Gordon Webster, Lori Watson, Zoey Pierce and Katrina Chaytor. In addition there will be works by studio potters available for the silent auction.

"We are aiming for a fiesta street party in the gallery and space for roaming in and out and taking over the parking lot," Nesbit said. "We are privileged in the valley because we can educate children to adults at any experience level. The membership for the studio allows people to work any time of day or night."

Nesbit said Boulder Mountain Clayworks has collaborated with the Community Library for art lectures and hopes to have more in the future. The studio does a great deal of community outreach, including programs with Sun Valley Adaptive Sports and the Idaho Food Book, and offers workshops with nationally known clay artists.
