Sweep at Filer for Cutthroat soccer

Boys 5-0, girls 2-0

Junior striker Tanner Flanigan, who has scored at least a single goal in 23 of the last 30 Community School boys' soccer games, provided two goals in Wednesday's 5-0 Cutthroat league road win at Filer.

Flanigan (10 goals season, 47 career) led the Cutthroat charge against winless Filer (0-7-0) and there were several "firsts" for the visitors:

First-ever varsity goals by freshmen Cooper Hanley and Hunter Weaver, first goal of the season by senior Eddy Albarran, and first shutout for senior goalkeeper Riley Berman.

"Man of the Match" was Bergen Palmer. Coach Richard Whitelaw (197-75-23 in 17 years) drew closer to two milestones—200 career wins and 300 career games on the Cutthroat bench.

Meanwhile, Freya Dickey and Hailey Rheinschild scored as the Cutthroat girls (6-4-1, 6-1-1 league) made it three shutouts in a row and four straight wins with a 2-0 victory at Filer.

The 3A Sun Valley girls host 5A Twin Falls (5-3-1) today, Friday Sept. 19 starting at 4:30 p.m. at Sagewillow Farms. The Sun Valley boys travel to Twin Falls today for varsity (6:30 p.m.) and JV non-league games.

After a 10-day break for school trips, the Cutthroats return with two key games Monday, Sept. 29 at Buhl. The league-leading Buhl girls (7-0-1) snapped The Community School's 44-game league win streak with a 3-0 win Sept. 4.
