Petition's not scary

Citizens, don't be afraid to sign the Ketchum recall petition. You are not voting when you sign the petition. The petition only allows a vote to proceed. You can sign it and vote against it when voting time comes. Remember, this is America. Don't listen to the scare group ads.

Those ads in the paper are requesting that the citizens not sign the petition. In other words they do not want you to be allowed to vote. That is ridiculous. It is your right to vote. The ads that I have seen are by Kipp Nelson and 48 Straight, Citizens for Successful Government (Miles Stanislaw, chairperson), the Sawtooth Board of Realtors, the Wood River Economic Partnership and other financially involved citizens and non-citizens.

What bothers me most is the fact that some employers intimidate their employees to not sign the petition. I don't mind if they state that they are against the recall, but they should not intimidate or threaten their employees if they sign the petition. The petition only gives us the right to vote.

Opponents of the recall state that a recall is disruptive and divisive. It is not that, at all. It allows you (who are told to sit down at public meetings and are not listened to) to make your voices heard, loud and clear.

I have had calls from various people stating that the mayor and City Council exert pressure on planning and zoning members to take a certain direction on various projects. Is that the way planning and zoning should decide the merits of a project? Of course not.

Be a positive force. Sign the petition and then vote as you please.
