A horse was killed early Sunday morning after it was struck by a vehicle on state Highway 75 north of its intersection with East Fork Road.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Kevin Hyde, a 23-year-old Shoshone man. Hyde was taken to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center by a Ketchum Fire Department ambulance for treatment of an injured wrist.

A sheriff's office report identified the owners of the horse as Rick and Colette Roudabush, who live on East Fork Road.

Sheriff's Lt. Jay Davis said Hyde was northbound in a 1993 Ford Escort shortly after 5 a.m. when the horse "ran out from the west side of the highway directly in front of him." Davis said Hyde also reported that he saw a second horse along the east side of the roadway just before he collided with the one that ran in front of him.

Damage to the Ford Escort was estimated at $4,000. The horse was valued at $1,500.

Davis said no citations were issued.
