People and Places


Wood River High School students Krystal Tracy and Piper Andrews have been inducted into the 2007-08 National Honor Roll, which recognizes high school and middle school students.

Army Reserve Capt. Dawn C. Gray has returned to the U.S. after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The service member is regularly assigned to the 785th Medical Company, Combat Stress Control Unit, Fort Snelling, Bloomington, Minn.

Gray, a preventive medicine team officer in charge, has served in the military for 15 years. She is the daughter of Stella M. Gray of Keystone Gulch in Sun Valley.

Gray graduated in 1981 from Wood River High School in Hailey and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from the University of Idaho. She earned a master's degree in 2003 from Eastern Washington University.

Charlie Baser of Ketchum has been awarded a $250 Ronald Erion Miller scholarship from the University of Montana. Baser is a sophomore majoring in photojournalism. The daughter of Barbara Stoll and Michael Baser of Ketchum is a 2005 Community School graduate.

Navy Ensign Amy K. Alexander, daughter of Dr. Herbert and Dr. Charlotte E. Alexander of Sun Valley, is enrolled at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.

Alexander is a 2004 graduate of The Community School in Sun Valley. She joined the Navy in June 2004. She is a 2008 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Wood River Valley student Liam Joblonski has been awarded a laptop computer for demonstrating academic excellence with an "A" grade in a core curriculum class. Announcing the award was John V. Evans Sr., former Idaho Governor and president of D.L. Evans Bank. Each year D.L. Evans Bank gives six laptop computers to Idaho students as part of its "Education Pays" program.

Ketchum residents who have graduated from Western Governors University are Erin Leady and Sarah Parker (Master of Arts in teaching in elementary education), and Gina Poole (post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program in elementary education).
