WR students apologize for vandalism

Even though the culprits have yet to be identified, Wood River High School students are taking responsibility for vandalism last week at a Community School soccer field at the Sagewillow campus in Elkhorn.

"I can tell you for sure that it was none of my soccer players," said Wood River Principal John Blackman, referring to green and white Wood River colors that were painted on the soccer field, its goal posts and a nearby shed the evening before the two schools met on Saturday for soccer games.

"It's a couple of knuckleheads that are looking for attention in a negative way," Blackman said.

Blackman said he's met with Community School officials on the matter and Wood River students have volunteered to either help clean up what remains of the mess or to assist at next months Community School barn sale at Sagewillow. Also a delegation of Wood River students will apologize at a Community School assembly on Monday.

"The high school as a whole is willing to step up and take responsibility for a few students who painted them in the wrong way," he said.
