A good deed punished

We held an event on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at Nelson Field and Colorado Gulch to raise money for cancer research, advocacy and patient services. One hundred percent of the donations were to go to The American Cancer Society for cancer. Our event is called Climb to Conquer Cancer. Our team had worked for almost a full year on trying to make this event as successful and unique as it possibly could have been. We spent our nights coming up with new ideas, posting flyers and holding meetings. It was very important to us to raise as much money as we could and to touch as many lives as we could for this, as cancer affects us all in some way or another.

We were very pleased with the event and everything went very well until we saw the pictures of the port-a-potties. We had port-a-potties set up all along Colorado Gulch for the climbers' use. The next day we found out that someone took a shotgun out and destroyed the port-a-potties. They shot up the outside as well as the inside. Those were donated for our use and now we need to take money out of the total that we raised for cancer research and fix the damage someone so carelessly caused to equipment that didn't belong to us.

You know who you are. What I have to say is please try and think before you act. The money we have to pay for the damages you caused with your little night of fun could have helped save a life.

For all of the volunteers that helped us that day and the whole year prior to the event, thank you so much for the hard work and love you shared with us for this event.
