Recall ignores big issues

It's not often that you fall in love with a community and all that it encompasses. I may not live in the Wood River Valley now, but part of my heart and spirit will never leave.

It is truly absurd that people are using my choice to leave my job as planning director in a campaign to recall Randy Hall. The people behind the recall would least know the emotions behind my decision.

I have worked in the public sector for 17 years. Randy is one of the finest public servants I have worked with and exhibits exemplary leadership qualities. The city of Ketchum has an outstanding group of elected and appointed officials at the helm; you should take comfort in that. I also had the privilege of working with dedicated and caring staff at the city—I do miss you.

When I was working on the downtown master plan, I often marveled at the ability of the vocal minority to "paralyze" things. We were successful in minimizing this distraction by reaching out to the community and informing them about the issues. We had a saying; "An informed majority will make a good decision." It happened with the Wood River Community YMCA, it happened with the downtown master plan and it will happen again. You have serious issues to address, keep your focus. Now is not the time to turn the circle inward and start shooting.
