Girls on the run seeks coaches

The fall season for Girls on the Run is just around the corner and the organization is extending an invitation for coaches.

Executive Director Mary Fauth said coaches don't need to be runners, but only need a desire to make a difference in girls' lives and value physical activity.

"You will be amazed and what you can do and the rewards you will receive," Fauth said. "Help girls uncover their potential and challenge themselves to achieve their goals."

After-school programs meet twice a week for six weeks, Sept. 15 through Oct. 25, and consist of training to complete a 5k event. Fauth said coaches receive training to facilitate the self-esteem-building curriculum and become life-changing mentors helping girls experience self-discovery, perseverance and growth.

Sites where coaches are needed are:

· Hemingway Elementary, Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45-4 p.m.

· Hailey Elementary, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4 p.m.

· Woodside Elementary, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4 p.m.

· Bellevue, Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45-4 p.m.

A 5k event for Girls on the Run participants and their families will be held Saturday, Oct. 25.

To join, contact Fauth at 788-7863 or e-mail mary@girlsontherunwrv.org with site preference. Anyone who hasn't coached with the program before can download a coach application in the 'quick links' section and mail it in.
