Cutthroats girls’ volleyball team loses first match

The Community School girls' volleyball team had a rough start to their season, losing three straight matches against Magic Valley Christian on Tuesday. Coach Reamy Goodwin said he could not remember the actual scores from each set.

Goodwin described the opposing team as really just two great players whom his team simply could not beat.

"We were missing a setter, and we had to piece together some things," he said. "But we learned a lot."

Last season the team placed fourth in the 2007 Northside Conference tournament and held a record of 10-10.

This year the team is hoping for a better run despite being fairly young with no seniors and only two juniors: 5'7 outside hitter Morgan Pintler and 5-3 row Tate Reed-McDorman.

Prior to the match, Goodwin said he was excited about the addition of Magic Valley Christian into the new seven-school Sawtooth Conference of Fourth District 1A Division 2 teams.

"My hope is that the addition of Murtaugh and Magic Valley Christian gives us a couple of schools to compete with," he said.

Despite losing all three matches, Goodwin said the team played much better than he expected.

"We will be fine in the end," he said.

The Cutthroats play at home against the Twin Falls sophomores on Friday, Sept. 5.
