Convention report

As probably the only residents of the Wood River Valley to receive community credentials to attend the last day of the Democratic Party's convention in Denver, we are pleased to give this eyewitness report to our fellow citizens.

The enthusiasm of the 80,000-plus Democrats gathered at Mile High Stadium simply cannot be described. The people loved speeches by Bill Richardson and Al Gore, among others, and when Barack Obama appeared, they interrupted his acceptance speech time and time again with standing ovations, flag-waving and loud cheers.

Everyone we spoke with afterwards found Barack's speech to be not only eloquent, but also replete with specifics about his priorities and plans, and with a backbone of steel and determination, especially when contrasting his positions with those of Sen. McCain.

Denver outdid itself as a host city, and hard-working volunteers for the city and campaign were everywhere to help and guide us with courtesy and cheerful smiles.

We felt that we were privileged to be part of history in the making.
