YMCA pool to host high school meets

Swim team seeks fourth state title


Seeking its fourth straight state swimming championship, the Wood River High School girls' swim team, coached by Brian Gallagher, and the boys' swim squad from Wood River are primed for a new season.

For the first time, Wood River will host a series of home meets at the Wood River Community YMCA pool along Warm Springs Road in Ketchum. That's where the boys and girls practice each day from 5-7 p.m.

Gallagher has welcomed 13 girls and nine boys to the Wood River team, which debuted its 2008 competitive season Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the Twin Falls YMCA pool. At least three home meets are planned.

Girls are seniors Racheal McGinnis, Ashleigh Share, Megan Hayes and Esther Williams; juniors Sophie Nosworthy, Taylor Coiner, Micheal Coiner and Melissa Becker; sophomores Zoey Olbum and Sarah Brown; and freshmen Ellie Shay, Elizabeth Fry and Tory Emerick.

Wood River boys are juniors Jon Atkinson and Gene Fairbrother; sophomores Bryce Ervin and Max Jones; freshmen Broadie Burrell, Sean Sutton, JT Sutton, Henry Rickbell and Adam Potts.

In general, Saturday meets begin at 11 a.m. and Wednesday meets at 5:30 p.m. Here is the schedule:

Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Twin Falls YMCA.

Saturday, Sept. 6, home at Wood River YMCA; on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Twin Falls Invitational; on Saturday, Sept. 20, home at Wood River YMCA; on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Pocatello;

Saturday, Oct. 4, home at Wood River YMCA; on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Twin Falls; on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Nampa; on Wednesday, Oct. 15, meet to be announced; on Wednesday, Oct. 22, meet to be announced.

Saturday, Nov. 1, regionals at Idaho Falls; on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8, state meet at the West Boise Family YMCA.
