Petunia came home

Pig returned to rightful owners

After a brief stint in politics, a pig found last week on the roof of Hailey City Hall has been returned to its rightful owners.

"They're just happy to have Petunia back," Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said Thursday.

Petunia's not a real pig, but a life-size plastic or ceramic model that was found Tuesday, Aug. 19, on top of City Hall with a sign attached to her midsection endorsing the candidacy of Hailey police Lt. Steve England for sheriff.

Gunter said a woman who lives on River Trail in northwest Hailey contacted police on Wednesday after seeing news stories and photographs about Petunia's adventure into politics.

"She doesn't want to do anything about it because she doesn't want to upset the kids and make them think they don't live in a safe neighborhood," Gunter said. "They're just excited to have the pig back."

Petunia's owners noticed her missing from a deck at the home a day or two before she was found at City Hall, Gunter said.

"Somebody just walked off with it," he said.
