A pig was found on the roof of Hailey City Hall last week advocating the candidacy of Steve England for sheriff.

It wasn't a real pig, but a life-size plastic or ceramic model that Hailey Police suspect was stolen.

"I think it was somebody playing a practical joke on Steve," said Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter.

England, a lieutenant with the Hailey Police Department, is running as an independent against longtime incumbent Walt Femling, a Republican.

Hailey police suspect the pig was placed on the roof of City Hall the evening of Monday, Aug. 18. They received a suspicious noise complaint in the area and checked it out but were unable to find anyone.

But the pig was there the next day, attached to the flagpole with an "Elect Steve England Sheriff" sign attached to its midsection.

"What was funny is nobody noticed it until about noon," Gunter said. "One of our employees finally spotted it."

The pig was removed and was in England's office on Monday, Aug. 25.

"My only concern is I want to get the pig back to its rightful owner," Gunter said. "If somebody is missing a pig we'd be glad to turn it back over to them."
