A truck hauling hay crashed and burned Thursday evening on U.S. Highway 20 near the western border of Craters of the Moon National Monument.

The driver wasn't injured but the tractor-trailer and about 20 tons of hay were destroyed, said Lt. Jay Davis, of the Blaine County Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. Davis said the truck was westbound and coming down a hill when the driver lost control, ran off the side of the road and flipped.

"The next thing he knew the truck was on its side and he smelled smoke and flames," said Davis, who identified the driver as Gill Singh Sukhdev, 35, of Elk Grove, Calif.

Davis said the truck was owned by Spyder Log Trucking in California.
