Bikes and CIEDRA

Do you or your children ride a mountain bike? Did you know CIEDRA would close 75 miles of trails to mountain bikes? In this time of rampant obesity why does Rep. Mike Simpson want to pass a bill that will reduce opportunities to exercise in the outdoors?

Are the lands to be designated as Wilderness in CEIDRA in danger of being logged, mined or developed? None are because they are protected by a national recreation area designation or forest planning that preserves the primitive character of the area.

Then why do we need a Wilderness designation, which will ban mountain bikes? In the end, Wilderness designation is not about the lands or the wildlife, but about not being willing to share. A Wilderness advocate was quoted in New West magazine as saying "We weren't happy about having to share the trail with a group of mountain bikers." Maybe Wilderness advocates skipped kindergarten, but I certainly don't mind sharing.

Please don't support an exclusionary bill like CIEDRA. Instead let's work towards truly preserving an area for future generations.
