In February, the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Idaho will host as many as 3,000 athletes from more than 100 countries. Surpassing the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games in athlete numbers and participating nations, the World Winter Games will be the largest event ever held in Idaho.

Competition will take place in seven winter sports—alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowboarding, snowshoeing and speed skating.

Of these sports, cross-country skiing and snowboarding events will be held in Sun Valley on Feb. 8-13, and volunteers are needed.

The Sun Valley Nordic Center will host about 335 athletes from 40 countries. Snowboarding will be held at Dollar Mountain, with about 83 athletes from 17 countries.

Register to volunteer online before the deadline of Sep. 30 at www.2009WorldGames.org/volunteer.

For more information, visit 2009WorldGames.org or contact the volunteer hotline at (208) 377-7199.
