Fishing Report by Bill Mason

In general, not much has changed from last week. Not wishing to sound like a broken record, fishing has been very productive with hatches on Silver Creek quite heavy and somewhat spotty on our other bodies of water. It's a typical August scenario and you can expect this to continue at least for the next couple of weeks. Let's have a peak at what you can find.

SILVER CREEK—Same wonderful story. In the morning Trico spinners appear in gusto then a few PMD spinners show up and mix in. The fish switch over and feed to them. Next, the small Beatis spinner completes the morning activity. Dave's Trico Spinner #22, Harrop Trico #22, Gray/Yellow No Hackle #16-18 and a Mason Quill Beatis Spinner #22 should complete the arsenal of flies you need to carry. Callibeatis spinners are found in the floating section. A Partridge Spinner #16 should do the job in the afternoon. One of the great things is the PMD emergence in the evening. Cut-Wing PMD #16-18, Parachute PMD #16-18 and Crippled PMD #16 will easily move fish.

BIG WOOD RIVER—Good fishing. But very spotty from hatch point of view. As a result, standard fly patterns are bringing decent results. Pink Albert's #14-18, Para Adams #14-16 and a Purple Haze #14-16 will all do the job. Although it is beginning to soften, Caddis is found in the late afternoon into the evening. Parachute Caddis #16-20 works quite nicely because of its visibility. Most of the fish caught on the surface run to the small side. To find bigger fish I've found very effective Copper John #12-14 and Flashback Pheasant Tail #12-14 fished underneath. As of yet Trico has not been seen but should be right around the corner

BIG LOST—The East Fork of Copper Basin has been very spotty. A few fish are being taken on a Royal Wulff #14-16 but certainly not many. Starhope has been even worst. We've had some decent reports of some nice fish being taken on the main Lost in the Bartletts Road area using big Crane Fly imitation so you might want to check it out. Below the reservoir, fishing has gotten better because water levels have dropped. Fishing Prince Nymph #12, Copper Johns #12 and San Juan Worms #10 will take fish. Crane Fly's are also effective.

WARM SPRINGS/TRAIL CREEK—Both are fishing nicely but the water is starting to get low. Parachute Caddis #16-18, Parachute Adams #16 and small Prince Nymph $14 will take fish. A small Royal Wulff #16-18 is a good fly to have.

PENNY LAKE/LAKE CREEK—Planted on a regular basis, both are fishing very well and are great places to take kids. Bait with a bobber and flies will take fish.
