Big Easy golfers grab"The Wildflower" honors

40 women’s twosomes at The Valley Club


Bonnie Hovencamp and Lyn de la Houssage emerged as the overall champions of The Valley Club's Women's Invitational golf tournament known as "The Wildflower," on Aug. 7-8 at the mid-valley course.

Hovencamp and de la Houssage came all the way from New Orleans, La. to claim the overall championship with a two-day score of 156. The overall winners carded the lowest net score of all three flights.

The format pitted 40 teams (member and invited guest) against each other in a 36-hole stroke play event. The first day's format was one best ball on the odd-numbered holes and two best balls on the even-numbered holes—with the Round Two played as a one best ball format.

Lavender Flight, gross: 1—Suzanne Williams and Britt Palmedo 180. 2—Jeanne Mace and Paula Watson 195 (won scorecard playoff). 3—Julie Dillon and Marcia Rankin 195. 4—Marilyn Celano and Arlene Herich 198.

Lavender Flight, net: 1—Sally Darmody and Pat Scott 164 (won scorecard playoff). 2—Jeanne Welch and Debbie Exley 169 (won scorecard playoff). 3—Susan Guggenheim and Pam Somers 169. 4—Kim Marcus and Diana Bell 170.

Lupine Flight, gross: 1—Mollie McCain and Marilyn Bilger 213. 2—Jeri Waxenberg and Mary Rolland 215. 3—Ursula Hinson and Jeannine Burns 217. 4—Gundl Haskell and Janet Cantor 218.

Lupine Flight, net: 1—JoAnn Stevens and Casey Wechlser 159. 2—Mary Louise Sedin and Gwen Raney 161. 3—Judy Atkinson and Beckie Biedebach 168 (won scorecard playoff). 4—Kristen O'Reilly and Pat Meadowcroft 168.

Larkspur Flight, gross: 1—Fran Papworth and Terry Smith 226. 2—Patti Harris and Frankie Freese 230. 3—Margaret Gilmour and Mary Ellen Bernard 233. 4—Sandra Fisher and Naomi McGinn 235.
