A 33-year-old Hailey man faces four misdemeanor charges for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, threatening a man who came to her rescue, kicking a car and resisting arrest.

Hailey police identified the man Monday as Osvaldo Gonzales-Manjarrez, who was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery, disturbing the peace, malicious injury to property and resisting and obstructing arrest.

Police were called to the Balmoral Apartments in southeast Hailey around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on a report of a man "yelling and attempting to pull a woman from a car," said Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter. Upon arrival they encountered two men fighting. Both were ordered to the ground. One complied, one didn't.

"Osvaldo went after my officer with a fist raised, so my officer tased him," said Gunter, who identified the officer as Patrolman Garth Davis.

"He was compliant from that point on," Gunter said.

Gonzales-Manjarrez was transported by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center. After it was determined that he was no worse off from the electrical shock, he was taken to the Blaine County Jail, Gunter said.

The police chief identified the other man in the fracas as Durio Garcia-Alvardo, a 33-year-old Hailey man who Gunter said came to the rescue of the woman while Gonzales-Manjarrez was allegedly trying to pull her from the car. Gunter said Garcia-Alvardo was apparently not acquainted with Gonzales-Manjarrez or with the alleged victim.

"He was doing the right thing," Gunter said. "I think it was just somebody who showed up at the complex and went to the woman's aid."
