Robrahn leads ultra-cross in Australia

Wild Winter Weekend

Taan Robrahn

Local snowboarder Taan Robrahn just competed in the 20th annual Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend at Perisher Valley, Australia.

The Wild Winter Weekend is one of Australia's biggest on snow events featuring big air, halfpipe and this year an ultra-cross. Taan competed in and won the ultra-cross.

They ran a normal boardercross and ski cross down to the final four of each discipline. Then they teamed each snowboarder with a skier randomly. Skiers took off first, crossed the line and then the boarders left.

Taan's skier teammate crossed the finish line in second place, leaving Taan to make up some ground.

"I caught up to the guy in front of me about halfway down the course. I didn't have any chances to pass until the final jump," Robrahn said.

Taan ended up getting thrown switch (riding backwards) and crossed the finish line about a half a board length in front of the other competitor. He said, "I knew my only chance to win was to get in a tuck and hold it together until the finish."

Next, Taan will compete in boardercross at Thredbo, Australia in a few days then heading down to Mt. Hotham, to continue training with the rest of the Australian National Team leading up to Australian Nationals next weekend.
