Ketchum residents Bill Nurge and Grady Burnett traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo. for the July 27 Teton Pass Hill Climb, a two-part hill climb (road and mountain bike).
The 4.7-mile road race had a 2,284-foot vertical climb from Wilson to the top of Teton Pass. The 5.6-mile mountain bike race went from Trail Creek Nordic Center to the top of Mt. Elly, a 2,870-foot gain.
Nurge finished the road and mountain races and placed first among Masters in both. He won the combined and a nice cash prize with a time of one hour, 26 minutes and 12 seconds.
"They were tough courses with grades up to 21%. The average grade for the road race was 10%. Quite painful!" said Nurge. Burnett, doing the road race, finished fifth in the Masters 45-plus category.
