Hailey ultra-marathon runners Brad Mitchell and Hank Dart were side-by-side among some of the toughest endurance runners in the country when they competed July 26 in the White River 50-mile Trail Run.
A Pacific Northwest favorite since 1993 and a USATF national championship event since 2001, the White River 50-miler was staged at Crystal Mountain, Wash. in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. The race course rose and fell a staggering 8,700 feet for a total change of 17,400.
Mitchell, 38, placed 14th overall among 202 finishers (238 starters) with a time of seven hours, 43 minutes and 58 seconds. The winning time of 34-year-old Michael Wardian of Arlington, Va. was 6.52:50.
Dart, 41, was 48th in nine hours, 11 minutes, 45 seconds.
The top woman in 10th place overall was Susannah Beck, 40, of Eugene, Ore. with a new course record 7.32:12. She won by 10 minutes among women, while Wardian was a seven- minute winner among the men.
